I had no idea that Old Town would have such a tremendous firepower show of fireworks from 11:30 pm - 1:30 am! Wow, I really missed the memo on that. New Year's Eve was certainly quite a celebration night. Congratulations to whomever had the permit for such a show.

fireworks are such a problem in this area of old wood houses. Why not have a 100% nuisance tax on all fireworks sold in Jefferson county? 108.25% sales tax on fireworks might be enough to fund education about the dangers and problems. A professional show for Beaumont in a family-friendly environment by the river would be a city-wide tradition to welcome in the New Year. After all, there are cultures who celebrate with "watch fires" and other ritual cohesion-inducing activities. Would that exercise meet a need that citizens of Beaumont possess?
